Larry Speakman of Jacksonville has been awarded the First National Bank of Arenzville Blue Diamond Community Service Award for 2015.
This is the second year for the award, which was created to recognize volunteers in the bank’s service area. First National Bank President Kai Schnitker announced the winner Wednesday.
Speakman is a volunteer at Grace United Methodist Church and Habitat for Humanity. He has worked with Habitat for Humanity almost since the group began building houses in the area and said he is excited to be starting work on the group’s 22nd home. Speakman puts in about 16 hours a week with Habitat since his retirement. He has also served as chairman of the trustees and chair of the administrative council at Grace United Methodist. This past year, he spearheaded a major sanctuary renovation project.
Speakman is a member of the Jacksonville Lion’s Club and he has served as president.
“We received nominations for some very deserving volunteers this year. Mr. Speakman received multiple nominations and his work, especially in the past year, really seemed to stand out,” said First National Bank Vice President Kevin Heitz.
Speakman was presented with a commemorative award and his name will be placed on a plaque displayed at the First National Bank of Arenzville
